1.     Botanic view

The “Rose-of-Jericho” is a desert plant, which grows in the Judean-Desertbelow the Sea-Level. It is green, lives and has flowers for one season of rainy winter. In summer, she, the dead and dry “Mother”, closes over the seed she produced, and keeps them from birds and insects.

Every time there will be a flood of water later, she will open up, spread her arms, and distribute 1% of the seeds for the next generation to grow.

She will do this for 20 years.

2.     Christian tradition

A Christian tradition tells, that when Mary, Mother of Jesus was on escape from Judea to Egypt, she was introduced to this plant, was fascinated of the plant behavior, and blessed the plant. Therefore, a home which possesses a “Rose-of-Jericho” will be blessed.

It is give often as a present for Christmas, for a new born baby, for Eastern and more.

Anastatica Hierochuntica – is the only “Rose-of-Jericho” which really grows in the Land of the Bible.

3.     How to treat the item

You put the dry plant in a bowl of water, so it is fully covered by water, and wait for 4 hours. She will open up.

You may leave her in water for two days, but then – take her out and let her dry and close again. Do not leave her in water for too many days. It is a desert plant not a water rose.
